DESCRIPTION:Geocaching at the Farm\nSaturday\, September 10th\, 10 – 11:30 am\nCost:  $10 per person or $36 for 4 family members\n\n \n\n\n\nIndividual or family of four\n\n\nindividual $10.00 USDfamily of four $36.00 USD\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\nBring your family geocaching at Stoney Creek Farm!  Geocaching is a type of global treasure hunt where people look for caches\, or hidden stashes of treasures\, using a GPS or smartphone. We will have several sites hidden around the farm ready for you to find. This is a fantastic way for new geocachers to get acquainted with the game. \nBring your own GPS device or use your smartphone to find the caches.  Coordinates and instructions will be provided prior to the event\, and we will be on hand to answer any questions and help get you started. This is a self-led event.  You will need to bring small “treasures” to trade as the general etiquette of geocaching is ‘take a treasure\, leave a treasure‘.  Examples include small plastic bugs\, toy soldiers\, coins\, colorful stones\, keychains\, kid’s meal toys\, or other small trinkets. \n*Attention scouts – – this event could help you earn your geocaching merit badge! \n\nThe Geocaching Event will start on the back porch of the Stoney Creek Barn and go across the creek and several acres of the farm.  Geocachers should wear sturdy shoes and layered clothing depending on the weather.\n\nAfter the hike\, kids can also go feed the goats and walk around the farm/play on the swing set. Parents/Grandparents are welcome to bring a lunch and enjoy time outdoors on the farm.\n\nNote: Any parents who want to drop off older children\, must sign a farm liability waiver.\n\nStoney Creek Farm has been searching for someone to lead kid activities here in Franklin and Cori Williams is the perfect teacher for making every class FUN! We are adding more kid’s classes at affordable prices throughout the year. Your kids will LOVE her innovative teaching style!  Healthy learning environments have an effective teaching strategy where students can learn positive participation and that is what Cori emulates.\n\n\n\nTeacher Bio\nCori Williams has many talents: Teacher\, Graphic artist\, certified Tennessee Naturalist\, and has taught using the Charlotte Mason and Reggio Emilia methods. She has a true LOVE of Nature and Sustainable Living and would love to share that enthusiasm with your child.\n\nCori and her 10-year-old son are native Nashvillians and are constantly seeking new opportunities for nature hikes and effective/engaging learning experiences.

DESCRIPTION:Yearning for some blackberry cobbler?  Wondering how hard it would be to grow your own blackberries? Wishing you could pick blackberries without the thorns or chiggers?  If so\, then this class is for YOU!\nHow to Grow Blackberries Class\nSaturday\, September 24\, 2022\, 10 – 11:30 am\nCost $40\, includes all resources and two blackberry canes to transplant\n\n\n\n\nOlin Funderburk has been successfully growing thornless blackberries for 12 years at Stoney Creek Farm.  He wants to share his knowledge and help you propagate succulent\, hybrid blackberries in your own backyard.  He will show you just how easy it is to plant\, cultivate and prune your own blackberry vines.  After the class\, Olin will send you home with two blackberry vines from his proven stock.  Also attending will be Taylor Reeder our local Agriculture Extension Agent\, who is very knowledgeable about growing any type of berries and ready to share her expertise with the community. \nThe class will cover the following topics: \n\nBest varieties to grow in Middle Tennessee\nProper timing to transplant canes\nSoil testing and amendments\nPruning for the best results\n\n \nOlin Funderburk Bio \nOlin earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Building Construction\, Engineering & Technology from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1982.   He has worked for over 30 years in all facets of the construction and residential development industry\, but he never forgot his love of the land and farming.  He retired from the corporate world to expand income streams on Stoney Creek Farm\, the farm he and his wife\, Leigh\, founded in 2005.  The farm has a Summer U-Pick Garden\, garden rental plots\, sustainable living classes\, as well as other income streams. \nThe Funderburk’s farm won the 2014 TSU Small Farmer of the Year Award in the category of Innovative Marketing.  and they continue to pursue the farm mission of “teaching people how to grow their own healthy food”\, as well as educating the public on sustainable living practices via the Stoney Creek Farm website and social media.  Stoney Creek Farm has been featured on television shows and news segments such as Volunteer Gardener\, Live Green Tennessee\, the Christian Broadcast Network\, WZTV Fox17\, and WKRN-TV News 2.  They have also been featured on Radio talk shows such as WTN’s Michael DelGiorno Show and Franklin’s WAKM 950. \nIn 2016\, the Funderburk’ published a book on sustainable farm living called\, “Dirt Rich” and distributed over 2\,000 in print and e-book formats to date. \n \nTaylor Reeder Bio: \nTaylor Reeder is the UT/TSU – Williamson County Extension Horticulture Agent. She works with both commercial and residential clientele\, providing programming and education in all areas of horticulture. Taylor received her B.S and M.S. in Horticulture from Auburn University. She worked with both the University of Florida & Auburn University Extension programs before her appointment in Tennessee. Taylor is an ISA Certified Arborist and lover of all things outdoors; a passion that she shares with her husband Drake and 2-year-old son\, James.
