DESCRIPTION:Sold Out – Easy Prep and Recipes for a Plant Based Diet\nSaturday\, February 5th\, 10 am – 12 noon\nCost $35 which includes all tastings\, recipes and handout guides\nLearn creative ways to use common ingredients to make tasty\, wholesome meals that can be prepared ahead of time for easy lunches and quick dinners during the work week. \nWe will prepare three recipes for tasting during the class to show just how easy and yummy incorporating more plants into your meals can be. \nWhat will you receive from the class? \n\nDemonstration of three ‘tried and true’ plant-based recipes to delight your taste buds\nNicolette’s story of plant based food training and experiences in Spain and the US\nTons of other plant-based recipes\nSeveral handouts to guide and inspire you after the class\n\n  \n \nBio: \nNicolette Maio is an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach and yoga teacher\, who is currently in school at MTSU working towards a degree in Nutrition and Food science with a focus in dietetics. \nShe attended several vegan chef trainings at the Vegan Gastronomy Culinary Academy in Mallorca\, Spain in 2018 after being vegan for several years. In her free time she coordinates and cooks for events and works as a farmer at Old School Farm\, a non profit that employees adults with disabilities and donates food to Nashville food pantries. \nAs a future dietitian\, she plans to continue to help people learn about working with local food and is curating a farm program that will invite people to attend retreats focused on bringing people back to nature and themselves through food\, farming and movement. \n

SUMMARY:Kid's Class: Homemade Bird Feeders
DESCRIPTION:Kid’s Class:  Homemade Bird Feeders\nSaturday\, February 5th\, 2 – 3:30 pm\nCost: $20 per child\, which includes all supplies and instruction\n\n\n\n\n  \nWinter is the perfect time to show a little love to our feathered friends!  It is also a season filled with opportunities to quietly observe and learn more about the birds that visit your neighborhood  We will be making a variety of simple bird feeders using repurposed items such as pine cones and toilet paper rolls.  All ages and abilities are welcome. \nFebruary also brings a special chance for kids to become citizen scientists while watching the winged inhabitants of the skies. During the Great Backyard Bird Count\, February 18-21\, 2022\, count the birds in your family’s favorite outdoor spaces\, then share your findings to assist scientists in gaining a better understanding of the global bird population. Tools and apps on the Audubon Society website\, www.birdcount.org\, help families identify species\, track findings\, and share photos and experiences with other bird watchers around the world. \nThe class will be on the 12′ x 60′ back porch that is covered with an enclosure…out of wind and rain. Kids can also go feed the goats and walk around the farm/play on the swing set. Parents/Grandparents are welcome to bring a lunch and enjoy time outdoors on the farm.\n\nNote: Any parents who want to drop off older children\, must sign a farm liability waiver.\n\nStoney Creek Farm has been searching for someone to lead kid activities here in Franklin and Cori Williams is the perfect teacher for making every class FUN! We are adding more kid’s classes at affordable prices throughout the year. Your kids will LOVE her innovative teaching style!  Healthy learning environments have an effective teaching strategy where students can learn positive participation and that is what Cori emulates.\n\n\n\nTeacher Bio\nCori Williams has many talents: Teacher\, Graphic artist\, certified Tennessee Naturalist\, and has taught using the Charlotte Mason and Reggio Emilia methods. She has a true LOVE of Nature and Sustainable Living and would love to share that enthusiasm with your child.\n\nCori and her 10-year-old son are native Nashvillians and are constantly seeking new opportunities for nature hikes and effective/engaging learning experiences.

DESCRIPTION:Sold Out – How to Grow Mushrooms with Anna Dellapenta\nSaturday\, February 26\, 2022\, 10-11:30 am\nCost $35\, which includes education\, instruction plus an inoculated mushroom log to take home\n  \nHave you always wanted to grow mushrooms\, but weren’t sure where to start???  This ‘How to Grow Mushrooms” Class will give you all of the information you need to begin your fungi journey.  Anna Dellapenta will share her love of growing delicious mushrooms with you\, so that you can jump start your new hobby with valuable information to make it all worthwhile.  She will cover the following topics: \n\nLifecycle of mushrooms\nEcological role of the mushroom and why it’s important\nLog cultivation with focus on wide ranging oyster and shiitake species\nAdditional resources for growing your knowledge base and sourcing supplies\n\nWhat will you learn and take home? \n\nThe type of wood that mushrooms thrive on\nHow to inoculate small logs with mushrooms plugs\nThe process of growing and cultivating mushrooms on logs\nHow to force cultivation\nTake Home – one inoculated log with shiitake mushrooms to cultivate\n\n \nBio \nAnna Dellapenta is a Wildlife Diversity Aquatic Biologist for the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.  She loves all things involving wildlife and nature!  Her love of mushrooms is a hobby gone wild and she enjoys teaching others about our fungi friends. \nAnna received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Fisheries Science from Virginia Tech.  Her specialty at work is freshwater mussel propagation.  She has produced and reintroduced some of the most endangered mussel species in the country. \nShe fell in love with mushrooms while doing fieldwork for her degree.  She started with foraging for wild mushrooms\, moved on to indoor cultivation and eventually started using logs for outdoor cultivation because it’s much easier.  Although not formally trained in growing fungi\, mushrooms have been Anna’s passion for over 10 years.
